New rescue rig coming to Everett

The new heavy-rescue rig is almost ready to deploy. It was paid for with a Homeland Security grant.
Everett firefighters expect to deploy a new heavy rescue rig in town soon.
Union President Paul Gagnon shared pictures last week. The rig is almost complete, he said.
It is being paid for with a 2010 Homeland Security grant, he said. It carries special tools and equipment for emergency rescue operations such as cutting people out of car accidents, removing people trapped by machinery or getting them out of collapsed buildings and trenches.
Some people call the heavy rescue rig a "rolling toolbox," Gagnon said.
The full grant information and other details are posted to the city's website. The grant is for up to $600,000.
