Hootenanny to feature quirky, edgy Pickled Okra

Maybe you like a little indie-pop with your bluegrass.
You will get to hear that Saturday night and you might even be inspired to pucker up and blow some kisses to the band Pickled Okra.
The band, fronted by husband and wife Todd and Paisley Gray, delivers quirky takes on traditional bluegrass, along with some old-timey favorites and their original tunes, which can contain edgy harmonies or some funk or reggae.
Pickled Okra is among the acts on the bill at Historic Everett Theatre's Hometown Hootenanny on Saturday. The event promises to be mostly unplugged and feature acoustic music, bluegrass, folk and Americana.
This annual show strives to keep alive the bluegrass tradition of pure acoustic sound and melodic voices by doing away with most of the amps and microphones.
But the quality bands on tap have a goal of filling the theater with honky-tonk sound, amped or not.
The show's headliners are The Howdy Boys, who combine old-time country with bluegrass -- throw in some honky-tonk -- and who blend all that into old favorites as well as original songs.
Also featured will be the quartet Tubal Cain, the returning group Blueberry Hill, along with J.W. McClure.
The Hometown Hootenanny is family friendly. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett.
