ARLINGTON -- Thieves hit the downtown Arlington Post Office overnight Thursday, prying open about 20 post office boxes and making a mess.

The vandalism and theft was reported early Friday morning at the post office at 524 N. Olympic Ave., city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

It was too early Friday to know if the case was connected to a break-in at the Sultan Post Office the night before, she said.

Mail was scattered around the lobby, Banfield said.

Arlington detectives collected evidence that could help identify a suspect or suspects, she said.

They're working with the U.S. Postal Service and on Friday were notifying potential victims, she said.

Victims are encouraged to call 360-403-3400 to report any theft.
