It was the second consecutive game in which Archbishop Murphy jumped out to a quick start, leading 16-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats increased their lead to 18 at the end of the half.
"We just came out hot in the first quarter," said Archbishop Murphy head coach Mark Bircher. "We like to go inside-out. That's always our plan going in. We go through Beth, a lot of times she gets collapsed on."
Bircher's plan worked on Saturday. When they couldn't get the ball into Carlson, MaireMichael Carroll, Madison Pollock and Anna Maher would connect from the outside, scoring nine points apiece and combining for eight 3-pointers, all of which came in the first half.
"MaireMichael did the exact same thing against Lake Washington," said Bircher. "She hit two 3s early. It really relaxes your team when you see her knock down some 3s."
With the victory the Wildcats go on to face Cedarcrest, in a rare "if necessary" game. Due to the Red Wolves loss on Saturday night, Archbishop Murphy's win and the fact the two teams had not met in the district tounrament. The schools will meet for regional seeding Monday at 7 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School.
