Edmonds Councilman Strom Peterson announces bid for re-election

Edmonds City Councilman Strom Peterson announced Friday that he plans to seek re-election in November.

Peterson is the longest-serving current member of the council. He first joined the council by appointment in 2009 to replace former Councilwoman Deanna Dawson after an appointment meeting that took several hours and more than 30 ballots. He won a full four-year term later that year, defeating now-Councilwoman Diane Buckshnis in the November 2009, general election. Buckshnis joined the council by appointment in early 2010 and won a full term in 2011.

Peterson is one of three Edmonds councilmembers whose terms expire this year. Councilwoman Adrienne Fraley-Monillas says that she expects to announce her plans on running for a second term in a week or two.

Appointed Councilwoman Kristiana Johnson said during the 2012 appointment process that she would run if appointed, but she has yet to announce a campaign.

Candidates file for ballot positions May 13-17. Any position with three or more candidates appears on both the August primary ballot and November general-election ballot. Positions with only one or two candidates appear only on the November ballot.

Peterson said he would have a campaign kick-off event in March.
