Lake Stevens police chief job posted

The job opening for the Lake Stevens police chief is posted.

The four-page informational packet came up in my Google Alerts last week.

It's posted to the website for the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, which is helping the city with the recruitment and hiring process. (You can read the packet here, but warning: PDF auto-downloads, or by clicking the PDF icon to the right.)

Here's an excerpt from the packet:

"Lake Stevens is expecting the next Police Chief to have the skills to lead a department and set a policing tone that is firm, fair and friendly and is underpinned with visible and open communication. The Chief will have demonstrated experience with contemporary crime prevention and public outreach strategies that promote a safe and prepared community."

The supplemental questions at the end are interesting, too, in light of recent reports of troubles at the department.

The job pays $100,000-$121,500 a year.

The posting sets a timeline to select a new chief by May 1. City officials have said they expect to host an open house with the final candidates before then.
