EDMONDS -- A sofa fire caused more than $45,000 damage inside an Edmonds townhouse apartment Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors called 911 around 1:30 p.m. to report heavy smoke coming from a unit at an apartment complex in the 20900 block of 76th Ave. W.

No one was inside at the time of the fire and there were no injuries, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

Firefighters entered the smoke-filled apartment and quickly extinguished the burning sofa before removing it from the building.

Damage was limited to the apartment where the fire started.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The man who lived in the apartment most likely will be displaced, Hynes said.
