MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The Darrington girls basketball team knew all about DeSales’ shooters.
But knowing about them and stopping them are two different things entirely.
DeSales hit four 3-pointers in the first half, including three by Ashlyn Lyons, to build a 20-10 halftime lead en route to a 51-33 win in a Class 2B state regional game at Mountlake Terrace H.S. on Friday night.
The loss ends the Loggers season with a record of 18-4.
“We knew who their shooters were and neglected to keep track of them,” said Darrington head coach Jeff Anderson. “They shot really well tonight. They fed the ball inside and we sagged off even though we discussed not doing that. They kicked it back out and they made us pay.”
Meanwhile Darrington struggled on the offensive end. The Loggers had a hard time getting the ball in the hoop, scoring just four points in the second quarter and committing 23 turnovers in the game.
“We panicked offensively,” Anderson said. “We got down and didn’t run our offense. We were content to shoot our outside shot tonight and things weren’t falling.”
Riley Anderson and Amy Miles each scored eight points to pace Darrington.
Despite the loss things look bright for Darrington. Every player returns from this year’s team, including seven juniors who now have state experience.
“We talked at the end of the game. The exciting thing for us is we get them all back. They’re very talented,” Anderson said. “They’ve got all the pieces right now to go further.”
