Snohomish County

Kudos to the many great employees

I would like to echo statements made by Snohomish County councilmen Brian Sullivan and John Koster this week. I, too, believe that a great shadow has been cast over county government. It's a shame because so much great work takes place here every day by county employees and elected officials.
There are county employees managing Paine Field, an airfield that is home to one of the most valuable industries in this state, providing almost $80 million in local tax revenue. Families are united every day in our county courthouse through marriages and adoptions made possible by the work of judges and clerks. Our county's veterans, elderly, and children with disabilities are served by social service workers who make sure people in our county have a place to live and access to adequate medical services. There are stewards of our county's 10,000-plus acres of park lands making sure our natural resources are here for all to enjoy.
And then there are guardians of our community, the men and women of the Sheriff's Office detaining drunk drivers, processing warrants, booking criminals into the jail, rescuing lost hikers, and working 24/7 to keep our communities safe. Every day in this county, roads are fixed, floods averted, criminals arrested, lost pets found, restaurants inspected -- the list goes on and on.
I would like to lift this shadow for a moment and say "thank you" to the 2,000-plus county employees who come to work every day. They serve our community with great dignity and respect.
Sheriff John Lovick
