Everett's franchise-worst losing streak came to an end Saturday night as the Tips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime.
Mirco Mueller scored in overtime to give Everett its first victory in nearly a month. The Tips had lost 11 straight, eclipsing the team's previous worst losing streak of 10 suffered last season.
Tyler Sandhu added two five-on-three goals and Landon Oslanski chipped in with three assists for Everett (22-35-1-4), which nearly fumbled away its chance to end the skid. The Tips led 2-0 going into the third period before Seattle tied it and forced overtime.
Austin Lotz made 36 saves to earn the win in goal for the Tips, who pulled within one point of Seattle for seventh place in the Western Conference. The Tips would have caught the T-birds had they held on to win in regulation. Everett also moved five points ahead of Prince George for the conference's eighth and final playoff berth.
Shea Theodore and Griffin Foulk scored for Seattle (21-32-7-1). Brandon Glover made 23 saves in net for the T-birds.
Everett was on the back foot throughout the third period, but the Tips found the winner in overtime. Everett broke two-on-one, and Oslanski fed Mueller, who put a shot into the top of the net to give the Tips a much-needed win.
Everett opened the scoring 11 minutes, 4 seconds into the game. Seattle took two penalties on the same play, giving the Tips a full two minutes of five-on-three. Everett converted when Sandhu finished at the back door following a nice passing move, giving the Tips a 1-0 lead.
The Tips received another five-on-three late in the second period, and again Everett cashed in. This time Sandhu's cross-crease pass deflected off the defense and into the net as the Tips took a 2-0 lead into the third.
Seattle got back within one 2:13 into the third period with a power-play goal of its own. Theodore skated the puck into the offensive zone and wristed a shot on goal that got past a screened Lotz to make it 2-1.
Then the T-birds tied it at 11:54. Lotz had juts made a big save and was shaken up, needing a visit from trainer Mark Paquet. Then straight off the ensuing faceoff win, former Silvertip Foulk put a shot from the point through traffic and past Lotz to knot it at 2-2. Lotz had to make saves down the stretch to get the game into overtime and give Everett a chance to win.
