Where things stand with three weeks remaining
It was quite the eventful weekend. Everett finally snapped its losing streak after it reached 11. Seattle had a chance to essentially wrap up seventh place in the Western Conference, but stumbled by losing to the Tips and last-place Vancouver. Prince George wasn't able to pull an upset against Portland. And my power went out during Saturday's live blog, and the situation still hasn't been completely resolved.
So with three weeks remaining in the regular season, a three-team race remains for the conference's final two playoff berths. It's not just a matter of getting into the playoffs, either, as seeding is also relevant. The difference between finishing seventh and eighth is the difference between playing Portland and Kelowna/Kamloops in the first round.
Here's how things stand. The standings are legit as all three teams have played 62 games:
7) Seattle, 50 points
8) Everett, 49 points
9) Prince George, 44 points
Games remaining:
Seattle (10) -- Edm, @Kel, @TC, TC, @Spo, PG, Evt, TC, @Por, Por.
Everett (10) -- Spo, Edm, Por, @Van, @Por, @Spo, @Sea, @Vic, Vic, TC.
Prince George (10) -- Kam, TC, TC, @Sea, @TC, @Van, @Spo, @Kel, @Kam, Kam.
There's not many games remaining for any of the three teams where they'll be expected to earn points. It's probably going to come down to which team can steal the occasional point from the big boys, as well as those few head-to-head match-ups that remain.
