Front Porch: Hi-Q competition Tuesday at Archbishop Murphy H.S.

Hi-Q competition

People are invited to watch several high school teams compete in a Hi-Q tournament starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Archbishop Murphy High School, 12911 39th Ave SE Everett.

Hi-Q is an academic competition that has been held in Washington since 1976. Students compete by answering questions from several categories.

The first round features Monroe, Meadowdale and Lynnwood high schools. The second round starts at 6:30 p.m. featuring Stanwood, Jackson and Archbishop Murphy high schools.



College test prep workshop: Parents and students are invited to a free workshop on "Test Stress: a Real Guide to College Test Prep" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mukilteo Library. The interactive workshop is designed to help families navigate the college admissions process. Students will leave with a skill summary sheet for use at home and a packet containing valuable college prep tips and resources.

The Mukilteo Library is located at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. For more information, call 425-493-8202.



Walmart Foundation info: The Walmart Foundation's spring 2013 state giving program is open and accepting applications through Friday. Nonprofits can submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program's online grant system.

Last year, the Walmart Foundation and its state giving program distributed $15.1 million in Washington state.
