Include women among choices
The recent decision by the current county executive to resign in May creates an interesting opportunity for a "fresh start" as noted in your opinion. I notice that the current speculation of potential candidates for possible consideration has weighed heavily on the male side of our leadership quotient. During my tenure at the county, I have seen and worked with a number of talented women executives in both elected and appointed positions. I also believe there is cadre of qualified women who hold critical positions in our society that could also make strong candidates.
Yes, our society tends to be biased toward the role of men as leaders; however, much of the stagnation and ability to develop workable solution for our society greatest woes can be evidences by the dominance of male leaders in our state and federal legislatures. This is not a condemnation of our male leaders outright; however, I find our current society is faced with a combative approach as exhibited by the male persuasion.
In the past I observed that distaff side of society tend to find new ways to collaborate and even find consensus that seems to bring forth better results for our communities needs.
The purpose of this letter is not to sway the public opinion or tell the elected precinct officers of the Democratic Party how they should go about their business in nominating three potential candidates to fill this vacancy. I do hope we take this opportunity to reflect on possibility that a "woman" could be the right person moving forward for our county.
