A giant inflatable colon is coming to town.
The large intestine will be on display at Everett Mall to educate people about colon cancer screening.
Colon cancer is preventable and treatable -- if you get a jump on it. The disease, that is. The inflatable is not to jump on.
It's a tunnel to walk through with an up-close look at healthy colon tissue, polyps and various stages of colorectal cancer.
"It's family-friendly, not scary," said Anne Miles of Citrine Health, the nonprofit health organization sponsoring the event with the educational group Colon STARS.
The inflatable, made for Colon STARS, is 20 feet long, 12 feet wide and 10 feet tall.
Miles said she sent out invites to school groups and seniors.
"Kids can come for a field trip," she said. "We are hoping to get large groups of people coming through."
The supersized colon makes the rounds to hospitals, health fairs and malls.
"People rave about it," Miles said.
Health workers will be on hand to give information about screening, prevention, risks, symptoms and treatment options.
The inflatable is available to rent. It needs a dry location with an electrical outlet.
The Super Inflatable Colon will be open for business Friday and Saturday March 1 and 2 at the Everett Mall center court,
