Two men broke into a former masonry business just before 5 a.m. Wednesday in the 13800 block of Fryelands Boulevard, according to Monroe police.
The men were confronted by the night watchman, and a struggle broke out. The watchman reportedly hit one of the suspects and knocked him to the ground, holding him until police arrived.
The second suspect ran. A search for him using a police dog was unsucessful.
No serious injuries were reported. The first suspect was checked over at a local hospital and booked into jail.
