Seattle port commissioner suggests sevenfold pay raise

SEATTLE -- Port of Seattle Commission President Tom Albro says commissioners should get a sevenfold pay raise -- from $6,000 to $42,000 a year, the same amount paid to state legislators.

Albro told The Seattle Times that more people could afford to serve, with higher pay.

He says he'll put the pay raise up for a vote next month. It would take three votes on the commission to pass.

Albro says he would not claim the salary increase if he is re-elected this year.
