Beer, wine, plays, plants and more weekend fun

This weekend is slammed full of fun stuff to do. Here’s some best bets for to make the most of your time off.

Art road trip: The Whidbey Working Artists present the “Spring Studio Tour” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday to Sunday. The free, self-guided tour features 27 artists at 21 studios; many of the artists will be demonstrating their crafts. Visitors tour with the help of a map. Get a color brochure with a map here. On the tour you’ll see a diverse group of artists working in many different mediums, including painting, photography, encaustic, print, pottery, glass, sculpture, fiber, jewelry, wood and multimedia.

See a play: The Village Theatre offers a masterful version of the classic mystery “Mousetrap.” The play opens Friday and runs through March 24. Find more details in our story here.

See a play with your kids: Storybook Theater presents an adapted version of “Pinocchio.” The play is geared toward kids ages 3 to 10. It plays twice on Sunday in Everett. See more details in our story here.

Celebrate mussels: The Penn Cove Musselfest kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday. You can eat mussels, see cooking demonstrations and tour shellfish farms. There’s also a beer and wine garden and live music. And don’t worry, there are events for kids, too. Find the details in our story here.

Buy plants: The Snohomish Conservation District Plant Sale is 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. You’ll find native trees, shrubs, ground cover, erosion control plants, flowering perennials and plants for hummingbird gardens, rain gardens, backyard habitat and more. Taste wine for a good cause: The Outdoor Youth Connections wine-tasting fundraiser, including hors d’oeuvres, music and a silent auction, begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. The cost is $35 per person or $60 for a couple. Find out more about the event, and the program it benefits, here.

Meet turtles and tortoises: Get a close-up look at these interesting critters this weekend at a free event at the Snohomish Library. Thayer Cueter, also known as the “Frog Lady,” plans to bring several of them to an event at 2 p.m. Sunday at the library, 311 Maple Ave. The event is for families. Read more here.

Taste beer: A tour of three of Everett’s craft breweries starts at 11:30 a.m. Saturday on the waterfront. The tour will visit Diamond Knot, Lazy Boy and Scuttlebutt. You can get more info and buy tickets here.

Read Dr. Seuss: Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with books, games, crafts and Dr. Seuss-inspired treats, 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Mayor Joe Marine and other special guests will read aloud. Get outside: Friends of Camano Island Parks offers a guided community walk at Camano Ridge Forest Preserve on Saturday. Meet at 9:50 a.m. at the Camano Center, 141 East Camano Drive. Learn about fruit trees: The Western Washington Fruit Research Foundation is holding a Winter Field Day and open house on Saturday at the Northwest Washington Research and Extension Center, 16650 Highway 536, Mount Vernon. Workshops include pruning and grafting. Rootstock and scionwood will be available for sale to graft your own tree. Entry fee $15 per person, and free for members. Bring your own lunch.
