"Last of the Red Hot Lovers": There are some classic nebbishes in the theatrical canon of comedy. Meet Barney Cashman as one prime example.
In Neil Simon's play, Cashman is a timid, middle-aged, married, overwrought guy. The time is the late 1960s and the sexual revolution is about to sputter out.
Cashman wants his piece of revolutionary action before it's all gone.
So Cashman lines up three potential trysts, emphasis on "potential."
His choices are Elaine Navazio, a foul-mouthed boozer who is no stranger to other women's husbands; Bobbi Michele, a young actress and a certified nut case; and Jeanette Fisher, a real catch as a depressed housewife, a moralist and the wife of Barney's best friend.
Sky Performing Arts is presenting this production in partnership with Snohomish Theater Project. The show is rated PG-13 for adult content.
"Last of the Red Hot Lovers" opens at 8 p.m. Friday at Frank Wagner Performing Arts Center, 639 W Main St., Monroe. The show begins at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 17.

"Ain't Misbehavin'": This Tony-winning musical revue presented by Whidbey Playhouse is a toe-tapping jazz journey through the life of Thomas "Fats" Waller during 1930s Harlem.
The two-act musical features an all-black cast: Anthony Caldwell, Joseph Glasgow, Germaine Kornegay, Anjelica Glasgow and Allenda Jenkins.
The cast is prepared to strut, strum and sing some of the hits Waller made famous from the start of his career in uptown clubs and downtown Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood and stages throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
Almost a biography, "Ain't Misbehavin'" shows how Waller rose during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club and honky tonk dives along Lenox Avenue and his career soared with the new jammin' thing at the time -- swing, according to press material.
"Ain't Misbehavin'" opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and plays at various times through March 17 at The Whidbey Playhouse, 730 SE Midway Blvd., Oak Harbor.
