EVERETT -- A pedestrian died Friday morning after being struck by a pickup truck near Highway 99 and Admiralty Way on Airport Road, south of Everett, officials said.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office was on the scene for several hours investigating the fatal accident and controlling traffic. The road was closed until about 9:30 a.m.

The pedestrian is male, but his age was not immediately available.

The accident was reported around 6 a.m.

Identification, as well as cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office.

The driver of the Ford Ranger pickup is from Mukilteo, officials said.

Investigators believe the truck was traveling east on Airport Road and hit the pedestrian as he attempted to cross Airport Road.

The driver, 44, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The pedestrian died before deputies arrived, Ireton said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
