Representatives from Senior Services of Island County will offer ideas for overcoming physical, mental and emotional challenges caused by ongoing health challenges.

Edmonds: State of the City speech set
Mayor Dave Earling plans to deliver a State of the City address from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. March 13 at the Wade James Theatre, located at 950 Main Street in Edmonds.
The event will be videotaped for replay on the city's website and government channel -- Channel 21 for Comcast subscribers and Channel 39 for Frontier subscribers. Refreshments will be provided, compliments of Panera Bread.

Everett: Breakfast aids human services
The Greater Everett Community Foundation will hold its annual breakfast for the Human Services Fund in honor of Bob Drewel at 7:30 a.m. March 20 in the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.
The fund, held by the foundation, was established to acknowledge former Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel's commitment to local human-services causes. Since 2005, more than $175,000 in grants has been awarded from the fund to human-services agencies. Registration for the breakfast is free, but each guest is asked to make a donation. New hours for planning department
The Everett Planning Department front desk will close for the lunch hour on regular business days starting Monday.
The office is located on the eighth floor of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.. It is scheduled to be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
The permit services counter located at 3200 Cedar St. on the 2nd floor also is closed for the lunch hour. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Terrace: City Council to meet Saturday
The City Council plans to hold a special work/study session at 9 a.m. Saturday to review its goals and objectives for 2013-14. The special meeting will be held at the Interim City Hall, 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 220.
The council uses those goals to plan the city's biennial budget. In addition to reviewing the goals and work plan, the council will discuss efforts to continue progress made toward Main Street revitalization, economic development and capital infrastructure.
