Report: DE John Abraham to visit Seahawks

After the season ended, Seahawks Pete Carroll said one of his team's biggest needs was to upgrade its pass rush, so it comes as no surprise that the Seahawks plan to take a look at some of the defensive ends available in free agency.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, former Falcons defensive end John Abraham is on his way to Seattle to visit with the Seahawks.

Abraham, 34, was recently released by the Falcons, but is coming off of another double-digit sack year with 10.0 last season. Abraham, who spent his first six seasons with the Jets before joining the Falcons in 2006, has 122 career sacks.

Abraham is one of several high-profile veteran defensive ends who could make sense for Seattle at the right price. Other 30-somethings on the market include former Colt Dwight Freeney and former Giant Osi Umenyiora. While Carroll and John Schneider would prefer to find younger, cheaper answers in the draft, adding a proven veteran would make some sense in light of the knee injury suffered by Chris Clemons in the playoffs. While there is a chance Clemons could be back before the start of the season, the Seahawks have to go into the year preparing for the possibility that he won't be back, which means multiple pieces could be needed to upgrade the pass rush.
