WHAT: Species tulips, including the Tulipa Violacea group, will naturalize and return year after year.
This variety has gray-green leaves 4- to 6-inches long, and it produces star-shaped pinkish-purple flowers with a black base inside the throat.
WHERE: This tulip is cold hardy, but it does not need a long cold period in order to bloom.
It prefers full-sun locations, thrives in well-drained soil and is drought tolerant.
Plant bulbs about 4 inches deep in mid-October, adding some bulb fertilizer.
After it blooms, allow the plant to die back naturally.
