SUNNYSIDE — One witness to a fatal police shooting in Sunnyside says the man told the officer to shoot him.
Rosa Garza told KAPP-TV she watched the shooting Wednesday across the street from her home near a neighborhood market. She says the man had been firing his gun in the air.
Police Sgt. Joey Glossen says the man refused to drop his gun and was fatally shot when he pointed his gun at the officer.
The Yakima County coroner said Thursday that 27-year-old Ramon Ayala of Outlook was killed by a single shot to the chest that hit his heart.
Glossen told KIMA-TV it’s not clear why Ayala was firing shots and investigators are not ruling out a death wish.
