YAKIMA -- A man accused of fatally shooting his wife last week as they left a movie theater in Union Gap was charged Thursday with first-degree murder.

Yakima County Prosecutor Jim Hagarty told the Yakima Herald-Republic the charge against John J. Munzanreder could be upgraded to aggravated murder, which carries the possibility of a death sentence.

A co-worker who is accused of hiding the gun, Juan Pablo Ibanez-Cortes, also is charged with murder in the shooting of Cynthia Kelley-Munzanreder, who died Saturday.

Munzanreder told police his wife was shot by a stranger who ran away.
