Alyssa Reuble
Meadowdale, P, Sr.
Meadowdale head coach Dennis Hopkins said Reuble is truly a team player and wants to see the Mavericks get back to state again this season. They got there a season ago for the first time in 18 years.
She was named an All-Wesco 3A first team and an All-Area second team pitcher in 2012 and Hopkins said, “she is probably one of the best pitchers in the league.”
Reuble is the only senior on this year’s Mavericks team and Hopkins expects her to be the leader of the team. She will see the bulk of the team’s pitching again this season.
Reuble will play college softball at Seattle University after graduation.
Hopkins said, “I truly think she wants to be the best pitcher in Wesco and basically show people that she is the best pitcher in the state.”
Trysten Melhart
Snohomish, OF, Jr.
The junior set a school record last season with a .556 batting average on her way to being voted team MVP. She is just as dangerous in the field. She played in all 24 games a season ago and committed just one error (.956 fielding percentage).
Melhart has a verbal commitment to play at the University of Washington after she graduates in 2014 and head coach Lou Kennedy said, “you couldn’t ask for a more positive presence in the dugout.”
She helped the Panthers to a third-place finish at last season’s district tournament and along with fellow All-Area first team third baseman Katlyn Purvis and the rest of the team, the Panthers will be looking at improving on that this season.
Melhart will be in center field for Snohomish this season, but Kennedy added every once in a while she gives them a little glimpse at how good of a shortstop she is at practice. Kennedy said, “the sky is the limit” for Melhart.
Alyssa Egan
Monroe, P, Sr.
Egan is a threat in the pitching circle and at the plate. She had a 3.13 earned run average and won 14 games for the Bearcats last season. She also hit .498 and had three home runs as Monroe earned a fifth-place finish at the 4A state tournament.
In 81 at-bats a season ago, Egan struck out once and is a threat to change the game with one swing every time she steps to the plate. She was voted Monroe’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the year for her performance in 2012.
The All-Wesco North and All-Area first team pitcher will be the ace for Monroe this season and is headed to Central Washington University after graduation, but not before she tries to lead the Bearcats to yet another state trophy.
Maddy Kristjanson
Mountlake Terrace, Util., Jr.
Kristjanson will serve as team captain for the Hawks this season as a junior and is looking to improve on a stellar sophomore season.
Kristjanson didn’t commit an error last season, playing shortstop, center field and pitching. She batted .620 with 31 RBI and seven home runs while leading the Hawks to a district playoff berth. She was also named All-Wesco 3A first team and All-Area first team a season ago.
First-year Mountlake Terrace head coach Shannon Rasmussen said she expects Kristjanson to pick up right where she left off a year ago. Though just a few weeks into practice, Rasmussen said Kristjanson looks in mid-season form and has all the tools to be a standout player again this season.
Kristjanson will get the bulk of her playing time at shortstop this season, but is also expected to do some pitching for the Hawks.
Makinlee Sellevold
Cascade, P, Jr.
Sellevold made an impact at Cascade immediately. In her first two seasons as a member of the Bruins varsity team she hit over .400 and struck out just three times in 44 games.
As a sophomore she was voted an All-Wesco South first team pitcher and is very dangerous from the circle. Sellevold has averaged near 100 strikeouts in her first two seasons of high school.
Former Cascade head coach Wendy Close said Sellevold always gives 100 percent no matter what the circumstances and is a great leader. Close called her, “one of the most talented softball players I have had the privilege to coach.”
Coming in even stronger than she did a year ago and with a good arsenal of pitches, Sellevold should make the Bruins one of the favorites to win the 4A Wesco South.
