Stealth's Richards named NLL Defensive Player of the Week

Washington Stealth goalkeeper Tyler Richards was named the National Lacrosse League’s Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday after saving 42 of 52 shots in a 16-10 road victory over the Philadelphia Wings last Saturday.

Richards also contributed two assists in Washington’s first-ever win in Philadelphia.

It is the second such award for Richards and the eighth Player of the Week award this season for the Stealth.

Richards has been instrumental in the Stealth’s three-game winning streak that has brought their record to 7-4, tops in the NLL’s West Division.

He is tied for first in the league with a .807 save percentage, is second both goals against (10.35) and saves (384) and third in wins with six.

Washington needs a win or a Colorado loss to lock up a postseason berth after missing the playoffs a season ago.

Other NLL players honored in Week 10 include Calgary forward Dane Dobbie, who won the Offensive Player of the Week, Toronto transition player Jesse Gamble, who was named Transition Player of the Week and Colorado goalkeeper Tye Belanger, who was named Rookie of the Week.
