ARLINGTON -- Drivers, pedestrians and bike riders who use 67th Avenue NE are encouraged to attend an open house tonight to learn more about the final phase of improvements to the road.

Construction is expected to begin as early as April on the avenue's final section of improvements, from downtown southwest to 204th Street NE, said public works employee Bill Blake.

The informational meeting is from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum, 20722 67th Ave. NE.

The city's construction management team, along with project designers, construction managers and contractors, plan to be on hand to talk about the project and answer questions.

With the open-house format, people can just drop by for information from the project team. No formal presentation is scheduled, but people can see the final roadway designs, learn the construction schedule and find out about the safety improvements to the portion of Centennial Trail that runs adjacent to 67th Avenue NE.

City officials hope to assure Arlington's business owners, residents and visitors that the project team plans to provide timely updates on project activities, road closure and detours, said Mayor Barb Tolbert.

The project has been many years in the making and should enhance the southern entrance into the historic downtown district, Tolbert said. It includes a new roadway surface, sidewalks, lighting, improved stormwater treatment, fish culverts, an upgraded railroad crossing and a new gateway to downtown.

The latest information about the project, as well as contact information for public comments and questions, is at www.67thAve.org. Blake has been designated the project liaison for businesses and people affected by the project.

More information is available by calling 360-594-2425 or by emailing 67thAve@arlingtonwa.gov.
