Mountlake Terrace schools temporarily on lockdown

Police were searching for a suspected car thief in the area of Cedar Way Elementary and Mountlake Terrace High School

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -- Two Mountlake Terrace schools were put on lockdown Friday morning while police searched for a suspected car thief nearby.
The commotion started about 7:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of 223rd Street SW, according to a police department memo.
A neighbor reported seeing a man believed to be involved in a recent car theft, the memo said. A police dog searched for the man but was unsuccessful.
During the search, Cedar Way Elementary and Mountlake Terrace High School were put into modified lockdowns starting about 8:25 a.m., Edmonds School District spokeswoman DJ Jakala said.
Parents were being notified about what happened Friday, she said.
Some Cedar Way buses were rerouted to the high school until the lockdown was lifted about 9 a.m., she said.
The car theft remains under investigation.
