Winquist, Oslanski share Silvertips' MVP honors
Winger Joshua Winquist and defenseman Landon Oslanski shared the top honors as they were named co-Most Valuable Players during Everett's year end awards ceremony, held following Sunday's season-ending 7-5 victory over the Tri-City Americans at Comcast Arena.
"It's a big honor," Winquist said. "You see some of the guys who have won it in the past and some of them are playing in the NHL, so it's good to be in that category with them."
Winquist, a 19-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, who's in his fourth season with the Tips, led Everett in both points (51) and goals (24). He did it despite missing 21 games because of injuries and illness.
Oslanski, a 20-year-old from Camrose, Alberta, was acquired off waivers during the offseason. In his lone season in Everett he finished with 17 goals and 31 assists. The 17 goals are the most ever scored by an Everett defenseman.
Oslanski was the only player to pick up more than one award Sunday as he received the Iron Man Award for being the only player to appear in all 72 games this season, as well as the booster club's F.I.E.R.C.E. Predator Award.
Defenseman Mirco Mueller was named Rookie of the Year. The 17-year-old from Switzerland had six goals and 25 assists in 63 games and is considered a potential first-round pick in this year's NHL draft.
Defenseman Ben Betker was named the Most Improved Player. The 18-year-old rookie from Cranbrook, B.C., had one goal, five assists and 100 penalty minutes in 68 games.
Winger Reid Petryk was named the Unsung Hero. The 19-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, had 16 goals and 24 assists in 70 games.
Winger Tyler Sandhu received the Coaches Award. The 16-year-old rookie from Richmond, B.C., had 19 goals and 14 assists in 62 games.
Goaltender Austin Lotz received the Community Relations Award. Winger Dawson Leedahl and defenseman Micheal Zipp shared the Scholastic Player of the Year award. Long-time season ticket holders Larry and Sue Hawk received the Jim Leo Distinguished Service Award.
