IOC to retest Turin Olympic samples

LONDON -- The IOC has decided to retest doping samples from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin in an effort to catch any drug cheats who escaped detection at the time.
IOC medical commission chairman Arne Ljungqvist tells The Associated Press that samples will be analyzed with advanced techniques to check for banned substances that were not found in 2006.
Last year, the IOC retested samples from the 2004 Athens Olympics and caught five athletes who were retroactively stripped of their medals.
In 2010, the IOC reanalyzed some Turin samples for the blood-booster CERA and insulin but those tests came back negative. Ljungqvist says the new retests will search for different substances.
The number of samples to be retested is still undetermined.
The IOC stores samples for eight years to allow for resting. The statute of limitations for Turin expires in February 2014.
