SNOHOMISH — Glacier Peak pitcher Callie Bircher tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 11, and Alexis Michael had an RBI and a run scored as Glacier Peak beat Kamiak 2-0 in a nonconference game on Thursday.

“(Bircher) worked ahead of hitters all day, moved the ball around and had them guessing up there a little bit.” said Glacier Peak head coach Caitlin Nies.

The win improved Glacier Peak to 4-0, with Bircher earning all four victories. The junior has allowed just four runs in those four games.

One Kamiak hitter who had Bircher figured out was Angie McFall, who went 2-for-2 with two doubles. But Bircher was able to continually pitch out of jams and strand runners. She received a little defensive help in the sixth when left fielder Abby Doney threw out a Knight at home to preserve the shutout.

Kamiak pitcher Alisa Ortega nearly matched Bircher’s performance, fanning four and yielding just four singles.

“Ortega threw really well, she kept us off balance and got us to swing at balls out of the zone,” said Nies.

Glacier Peak managed to push a run across in the first and fifth innings, with Michael being involved in both. In the first, the senior drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Emma Bollinger’s base hit to right. Michael then had a two-out RBI single in the fifth to drive in Bircher with the final run.
