FREELAND — South Whidbey Fire/EMS celebrated volunteer firefighters and other staffers March 9 with an annual awards dinner at the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club in Langley.
State Fire Marshal Chuck Duffy also attended.
Award recipients included fire Capt. Jim Towers, who was given the Carl Simmons Officers’ Choice Award, which was named after his father.
Firefighter of the year was Gary Guernsey. Robert Frey won an award related to his technical rescue and marine rescue skills.
