'Winning' isn't reason for war

On Tuesday, I saw that Kevin Moeller was given a front-page spot for his support of the Iraq war. ("Long has he waved"). It's enough to see them on display downtown; do these people really deserve this recognition? Yes, it's proper to recognize our soldiers who served and sacrificed overseas, but I find his suggestion that "Americans want to win" morally repugnant, in light of the thousands of American casualties and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths! "Winning" is never a defensible cause for going to war! Then there's the glaring fact this man neither served in the Gulf, nor represents anyone who does.
