As we touched on earlier, Seahawks GM John Schneider sounded a bit more open to a Matt Flynn trade when he was interviewed on Sports Radio KJR this morning.
The Seahawks’ stance all offseason has been that they would listen to offers for their backup quarterback, but that they’re more than happy to have him backing up Russell Wilson in 2013. Seattle’s recent moves, and the added payroll that comes with them, however, could have the Seahawks more willing to move Flynn, not so much for the savings this season, but the potential cap rollover that could help them re-sign players next year and beyond.
On Tuesday afternoon, CBSsports.com’s Jason La Confora reported that if the Seahawks are going to move Flynn, Jacksonville is the most likely landing spot. Jacksonville has long been mentioned as a possible trade partner for Flynn, not just because the Jags want to improve their quarterback play, but also because new head coach Gus Bradley is familiar with Flynn. La Canfora also mentions Oakland and Buffalo as possible destinations for Flynn. And it’s important to note that La Canfora isn’t saying a deal is imminent or that the sides have even worked any details out, just that if something is going to go down, Jacksonville is “the most likely destination.”
