Yes, I get email, from readers — all three of you — from teams and from speedways. So, I thought I’d share some of them with you. As we head into the second year of this little blog project, I’m hoping to hear more from you, and as I do, I’ll turn the best ones around.

From Shaun, regarding my wholly inadequate NHRA lookahead: “… All of that stuff you mentioned should bring back the competition to top fuel. Have you checked the driver blogs (on NHRA.com) that I told you about last year. Check Wilkerson’s because the team manager from the Worsham team last year moved there and he is the best at blogging on there.”

Shaun also reminded me that the World of Outlaws started last weekend and reserved tickets went on sale for all the major events at Skagit Speedway. You have to buy tickets to each night of the weekend to get reserved tickets.

Mark Galloway was a Monroe man who worked at Speedway Chevrolet and was the crate motor tech at Evergreen Speedway. Mark died in a car accident last year.

Greg Galloway, Mark’s father, sent me an email to let me know a scholarship has been set up in Mark’s name at Shoreline Community College.

“We intend for it to be annual dollars for a student coming out of an automotive program and heading another,” Greg Galloway wrote. “There at Shoreline they have the Chevrolet (GMASEP that Mark was in) the Mopar and I think Toyota.

Donations designated to the Mark Galloway Scholarship should be made payable to and sent to:

Shoreline Community College Foundation

16101 Greenwood Ave North, Suite 1005

Shoreline, WA 98133-5696.”

Draft Rescue Response and Evergreen Speedway teamed up with Snohomish County Emergency Management, FEMA, Allied Waste and other local businesses and citizens to help clean up some homes in Snohomish that were devastated by the recent floods.

Evergreen Speedway and Johnson Productions offered the use of their aid unit and staff for a mobile first aid station to follow the procession along the streets of the city to keep volunteers and workers safe as they worked to clean up the yards and homes.

More than 22,000 lbs of debris was collected and loaded in three and a half hours by the volunteers who gave of their time for the sake of their neighbors.

A photo album from the day’s activities taken and posted by Stephen Hagberg of Emergency Management can be found right here.

For those that like their racing fast and straight, the NHRA has updated its Web site, www.NHRA.com. From a press release:

“The new-look NHRA.com will have a sleeker, more refined appearance that will provide the 2.8 million unique visitors who come to NHRA.com during an average month with a more interactive and content-driven experience.

‘The strategy from the outset was to expand NHRA.com’s leadership position as the premier Internet source for drag racing by providing interactive news features, multimedia functions, e-commerce and other innovative elements,’ said Gary Darcy, senior vice president of sales and marketing, NHRA. ‘We are excited about the evolution of the Web site in the coming weeks and months ahead for our fans and members, as well as improved functionality for the racing community.’

The redesigned NHRA.com will continue to serve as a destination site for the sportsman racing community and integrate the existing divisional and sportsman Web sites and domains. Those services will continue to include racer registration, and special exclusive features only available to NHRA members such as full weekend access to live audiocasts.

In addition to the improved design that will give users significantly streamlined navigation, this initial phase of the relaunched NHRA.com will feature a vastly expanded selection of photo and video galleries and more frequently updated news and blogs.

And in the coming weeks and months there will be additional enhancements to the site including Full Throttle TV video, a brand new e-commerce shop, and NHRA Live!, a new component of NHRA.com that will feature real-time results of every pass at every national event.
