EDMONDS — Behind two standout performances from Jessica Roy and starting pitcher Sophia Frost, Jackson defeated Edmonds-Woodway 8-1 in Monday’s 4A Wesco South game.
Roy finished 3-for-4 on the afternoon with a two-run double, a triple and an inside-the-park home run. Her inside-the-parker was her Wesco leading sixth home run in seven games.
“It’s pretty scary,” Jackson head coach Kyle Peacocke said of Roy’s play to begin the season. “I’d be scared if I was an opposing coach having to face her in the lineup. It’s just incredible. The other five (home runs) she’s hit were no doubters. This one (today) was a little unique. Offensively she has a rare skill set in that she’s really fast and she hits the ball hard.”
In the pitcher’s circle, freshman starter Frost (5-2) had another dominate performance for Jackson, striking out a season-high 12, while allowing just three hits and one run in seven innings.
“(Sophia) was dominating from beginning to end,” said Peacocke. “She had her change up working today better than it has been in a while. The hitters looked kinda foolish.”
