Prep softball: Lakewood 14-6, Coupeville 4-5

ARLINGTON — Hailey Malakowski recorded two wins on the mound and hit a two-run home run in each game of a doubleheader for Lakewood. The Cougars swept Coupeville for a pair of Cascade Conference victories.

In game one, Kiana Smith led Lakewood’s offense hitting 3-for-3 with two runs, a double, four RBI and a home run to end the game in the fifth inning. Paige Cook added a double and a triple, and Malakowski contributed to the Courgars’ eight-run third inning with the first of her two-run home runs.

Malakowski’s second two-run shot came in the sixth inning of game two and tied it at 5-5. Then Mikayla Holmes came up with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and drove in Paige Cook with a walk-off single to avoid extra innings.

Madeline Strasburg led Coupeville, going 5-for-6 over the two games.
