Q: Several times on “Duck Dynasty,” Phil Robertson has referenced playing football with and even starting ahead of Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech. How much of that is true?
A: All of it. While Bradshaw is a Hall of Fame quarterback and Super Bowl winner with the Pittsburgh Steelers, “Duck’s” Robertson was in fact “ahead of Bradshaw on Louisiana Tech’s depth chart,” according to a story on Sports Illustrated’s SI.com site.
Robertson, the site adds, “gave up football with one year of eligibility remaining because the game and any future in it interfered with his heart’s dearest passion: duck-hunting season.”
While football was fun, Robertson told SI.com that “it was much more fun to be standing down in some flooded timber with about 35 or 40 mallard ducks comin’ down on top of me in the woods. That did my heart more good than all the football in the world.”
Indeed, the story noted Bradshaw’s account in his memoirs of Robertson coming to practice: “directly from the woods, squirrel tails hanging out of his pockets, duck feathers on his clothes. Clearly he was a fine shot, so no one complained too much.”
Q: My wife and I loved “Longmire” last year. I believe it was on A&E. Will it be back this year?
A: Yes. The mystery-drama inspired by a series of novels is set to return to A&E in 2013. I have not seen a specific air date.
Q: On “The Mentalist” there has been a lovely redhead female detective who was a regular but then disappeared for about a month. What happened?
A: I believe you are referring to Amanda Righetti, who plays Grace Van Pelt on the series. In January she and husband Jordan Alan welcomed a son, Knox Addison Alan. Righetti took a break from the CBS series around that time, but has returned to work and on the air.
Q: What happened to “Merlin” on Syfy?
A: The series, which is in its fifth and concluding season, will begin a run of five remaining episodes on Syfy on May 3. If you do not want to wait that long, the entire fifth season will also be available on DVD and Blu-ray on April 9.
Q: We have watched the “Librarian” movies starring Noah Wyle and have enjoyed them very much. Will there be any more?
A: To date there have been three of the made-for-TNT films: “The Librarian: Quest for the Spear” in 2004, “The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mine” (2006) and “The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice” (2008).
Wyle told “Access Hollywood” as the third movie was premiering that, assuming there was an audience, “I would very much like to do as many of these as we can.” Dean Devlin, the producer behind the series, said in 2009 that a fourth movie was in the works, possibly for release in movie theaters.
But that movie has not happened, and the people involved have been busy with other projects. Wyle, for one, will be back on TNT on June 9 when alien-invasion thriller “Falling Skies” returns.
Q: I saw a preview of a movie about a guy that just got out of prison played by De Niro. Now I cannot find it. Do you know about this film? P.S. I think the title had the word “guy” in it.
A: I suspect you saw the trailer for “Stand Up Guys,” a movie starring Al Pacino as a criminal recently released from prison. It also featured Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin. While I liked parts of the movie, reviews were generally not good, and its box-office stay was brief. The movie will be on DVD and Blu-ray on May 21,
