EDMONDS — Focus On Fresh LLC will soon open a new Edmonds Market Fresh IGA in the retail space previously occupied by Petosa’s Family Grocer at 550 Fifth Ave. S., the business owners announced Thursday.

The store’s new ownership and management group, comprised of co-owner and president Mike Trask, co-owner and general manager Gary Rygg, and store director Tyler Trask, plan to open the store in May when upgrades to the facility and the transition to IGA are expected to be complete.

“After being in the community for only a few weeks, we have experienced a warm welcome from the public, the City of Edmonds and our landlord, Wilson Properties,” Mike Trask said in a news release. “We are very excited to bring the power of the IGA brand to Edmonds and share its many benefits and hometown values with our new community.”

Edmonds Market Fresh IGA will offer the community an improved shopping experience including enhanced produce, meat, seafood, bakery and deli departments, plus an expanded selection of beer, wine and spirits. Customers will also find a wide selection of grocery products, including more than 200 IGA private-label brand items.

The Edmonds Market Fresh IGA team plans to connect with the community by offering five percent senior discount and one percent community give-back programs through its “WeConnect” card. While the card will not be necessary to shop at the store, cardholders will receive special rewards on featured items. The store’s new website, still under construction, will provide online specials, weekly ads, recipes and an array of shopping and meal planning tools.

Edmonds Market Fresh IGA will employ about 30 associates, many from the local area.

The store’s new owners have more than 80 years of combined experience in the Northwest grocery industry. Earlier this year, Mike Trask, who also owns Granite Falls Market Fresh IGA, was the recipient of the 2013 IGA Retailer of the Year Award of Excellence. The award is only given to IGA retailers whose stores have achieved IGA’s five-star status and have demonstrated excellence and the highest level of achievement in community involvement, employee development, merchandising innovation, IGA brand support and marketing.

The Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA) is the world’s largest group of independent grocers with aggregate worldwide retail sales of more than $29 billion per year. The alliance includes more than 5,000 supermarkets worldwide, supported by 36 distribution companies and more than 50 major manufacturers, vendors and suppliers. IGA has operations in 46 states.
