Countdown to the Seahawks 2013 schedule release

We’re now five hours away from the NFL releasing it’s 2013 schedule, something the league has turned into a primetime event (the NFL Network and ESPN2 are dedicating a combined five hours of coverage to it).

But while we have to wait for the dates/times of Seattle’s game, we’ve known the opponents since the end of last season, but as a reminder, here it is again.

Home: San Francisco, Arizona, St. Louis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Minnesota.

Away: San Francisco, Arizona, St. Louis, Atlanta, Carolina, Houston, Indianapolis, New York Giants.

And of course one of the biggest questions on schedule release day is that of how many primetime games a team will get. The Seahawks had three last year—their Thursday nighter in San Francisco, the infamous Monday Night game against Green Bay, and the late-season home game against San Francisco that was flexed into the Sunday Night slot—and given their success, the popularity of Russell Wilson, and the moves they made in the offseason, the Seahawks figure to have several primetime games again this year.

This is just a guess, but off the top of my head, I would think one and possibly both games against the 49ers will be at night, and there is also a good chance a game in New York could end up in primetime because it combines a hot team (Seattle) against a team from the country’s biggest market (hey, ratings matter). I’d also guess the Atlanta game could end up in primetime considering those teams are among the top in the NFC, and played a very entertaining playoff game in January. The Russell Wilson-Andrew Luck showdown in Indy would also make sense for a primetime game, as could the home game against New Orleans, or possibly even Minnesota because of Seattle’s offseason additions of former Vikings stars Percy Harvin and Antoine Winfield. Also, the Adrian Peterson/Marshawn Lynch storyline would be an easy one to play up. Overall, I’d guess the Seahawks end up with four, possibly five games in primetime in 2013, but we’ll find out for sure later today.
