Other times it rains.
Like Mother Nature is directing a certain finger at you.
That's what happened tonight. Marysville had been working toward a dedication ceremony for its baseball field to honor past coaches and a player. I spent the better part of my week researching those individuals and was just about to hand the story over to my boss, prep editor Aaron Swaney, when the news broke.
The ceremony had been postponed.
We shouldn't be surprised. We should be sad, but not surprised. How does the saying go: If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans?
He must be having a good chuckle.
Anyway, we at The Herald now have a phenomenal story in our files about the incredible history of Marysville baseball, including the three individuals who were set to be honored Saturday: former coaches Ray Ewing and Steve Opel and former player Brad Baunsgard.
Unfortunately, the ceremony won't be going on as planned. Marysville School District athletic director Greg Erickson informed us Friday afternoon, fortunately soon enough that we could still get other stories to fill out Saturday's sports section.
Erickson said he is attempting to reschedule the ceremony for May, but with that glorious Pacific Northwest weather we know and love, the field may not be dedicated until 2014.
So it looks like the rain won this particular battle in the rain wars (#rainwars). But the war continues to rage on.
Personally, Im not optimistic about our chances.
