Mariners manager Eric Wedge has spent the early part of this season limiting Franklin Gutierrez’s playing time in hopes of keeping the oft-injured centerfielder healthy. Despite those efforts, however, Gutierrez injured his hamstring attempting to make a diving catch in Monday’s win in Houston, and as a result he will go on the 15-day disabled list.
Outfielder Carlos Peguero was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma to take Gutierrez’s place on the roster.
Peguero, 26, hit .246 with a .351 on-base percentage in 17 games with the Rainiers. He had two home runs, three doubles and 14 RBI in 61 at-bats.
