Washington Stealth defender Mike Grimes has been named the NLL Defensive Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Grimes, 27, had a goal and an assist as the Stealth closed out the regular season with a 17-13 victory over Philadelphia on Saturday. He also was credited with seven loose balls and a forced turnover.
Other NLL players honored Wednesday were Calgary’s Shawn Evans (Offensive Player of the Week), Minnesota’s Jordan MacIntosh (Transition Player of the Week) and Buffalo’s Dhane Smith (Rookie of the Week). The awards were determined in a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
The Stealth (9-7) face the Edmonton Rush (9-7) Saturday in the first round of the NLL playoffs. The faceoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Comcast Arena in Everett. The game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
