Washington Stealth defenseman Mike Grimes was named the National Lacrosse League’s defensive player of the week on Wednesday.
Grimes had one goal and one assists along with a forced turnover and seven loose balls in Saturday’s 17-13 victory over the Philadelphia Wings. His play helped the Stealth seal a home first-round playoff game against the Edmonton Rush.
Grimes finished the regular season ranked second among NLL defenseman with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points.
Calgary’s Shawn Evans was named the league’s offensive player of the week. Minnesota’s Jordan MacIntosh was the transition player of the week and Buffalo’s Dhane Smith was the rookie of the week.
Grimes is the sixth Stealth player to be honored with a player of the week award this season.
