Regardless of what you might have heard, Cyndy’s Broiler is going to remain a music venue to keep the music going in Stanwood.

So said Cookie Spirk, executive director of the Northwest Music Foundation, a nonprofit that helps local musicians by fostering and encouraging original music and offering grants and instruction to help musicians achieve their goals.

The foundation is organizing a series of concerts to be held at Cyndy’s Broiler to raise money.

The first concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and will feature some country music brought by the bands More America, Train Wreck and Guns of Nevada.

“I call this the thrashing side of country music,” Spirk said.

Cyndy’s Broiler is an intimate venue that seats about 250 with plenty of dance floor.

More America and Trainwreck are local musicians who live in or have lived in the Stanwood and Camano area.

Guns of Nevada is the headline act and is a Seattle based group with two albums and who have shared the stage with Joe Cocker, Tom Petty and Toby Keith. They have also appeared in television shows and films, Spirk said.

With this concert and others to follow, the foundation also hopes to complete a documentary it started filming last year on what Northwest music is all about. The documentary should be finished by the end of summer and Spirk hopes to air it on PBS.

The film will be used as a fundraising tool but also will be useful to budding musicians as an informational and educational tool, Spirk said.

The foundation wants to start its own reality television show to feature “all the entertaining aspects of making music,” Spirk said.

Saturday’s concert will help to support these plans, Spirk said.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cyndy’s Broiler, 27021 102nd Ave. NW, Stanwood.

There’s a suggested cover charge of $5 and alcoholic drinks and food will be available for purchase with all proceeds to benefit Northwest Music Foundation.

The concert is all ages. This event will be filmed. For more information go to nwmusicfoundation.net or call Spirk at 425-737-5144.
