EVERETT — A long week for Cascade baseball meant usual reliever Jack Nazy got his first start of the year, and he made the most of it. Nazy threw a complete game, stuck out six and gave up just one run to lead the Bruins to a Wesco 4A South victory 8-1.
“He’s just a kid that throws strikes,” said Bruins head coach Scott Stencil.
“He came out and did amazing.”
The eight runs scored to back him up may have helped Nazy’s confidence. The Bruins methodically built a lead, scoring in five of the six innings they came to the plate.
“We made some good contact early, and were able to have a couple of balls that fell in,” said Stencil.
That resulted in a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, when Matthew Butler helped break it open with a two-run double.
Danny Townsend added a pair of hits, including a double, and scored twice.
Despite the loss, Jackson clinched a district playoff berth due to losses by both Mariner and Lynnwood.
Cascade moves on to a season-ending three-game series with Edmonds-Woodway that will decide the league championship.
Stencil said he’s sure the players are excited about the chance to win a league title, but “honestly, I’m just happy to be in the playoffs.”
