Published:
The U.S. Department of Labor has allocated $150,000 for job placement and retraining for Boeing Co. workers who are being laid off.
The funds are being distributed to Workforce Development Council Snohomish County for use between May 1 and Dec. 31. The grant, part of the Labor Department's rapid response program, follows an announcement this month by Boeing of Puget Sound-area layoffs. On April 8, the company sent 60-day notices to 939 assembly workers.
Many of those who were laid off likely will find work quickly with a large network of advanced manufacturing and aerospace suppliers in the county, said Sue Ambler, president of Workforce Development Council.
"These funds will ensure we are able to provide efficient and effective services to help our aerospace workers get back to work," she said.
The council is coordinating the worker services effort with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). Affected workers can access services at WorkSource Snohomish County locations.
