Prep boys soccer: Arlington 1, Mount Vernon 0

MOUNT VERNON -- Jay Westerwelk scored 17 minutes into the game to give Arlington a 1-0 lead and the Eagles' defense held strong the rest of the way for the Wesco 4A North win.
The goal came after Brendan Aune took a free kick that the Mount Vernon goalkeeper saved. The ball ricocheted off of several players before Westerwelk was able to drive it home.
Danny Herarra, Sam Nielsen and Lucas Larsen stepped up on defense to get the Eagles their third win of the season. "After we scored the goal (Mount Vernon) really cranked up the pressure and dominated possession and shots in the game and the Arlington defense held strong," said Eagles head coach Mike Gudgeon.
