Sunday's paper was the final daily edition printed at The Herald's offices at 1213 California Ave.
Herald Photographer Nick Adams was there early Sunday morning as the final edition rolled off the Goss Metroliner presses installed in 1993, one of a succession of presses that have printed the paper since The Herald's first issue was published on Feb. 11, 1901. The Herald continues its record of never having missed a publication day since.
Among the press employees that Adams talked to was foreman Joe Norton, who has worked in newspaper pressrooms for 35 years, the last 10 at The Herald.
It was heartbreaking to watch the final papers come off the presses on which he had worked for a decade, Norton said.
"The newspaper has always been an avenue for me to get my news. I am proud to produce a good copy," Norton says in a video that Adams produced.
