Take classes or field trips on Migratory Bird Day

International Migratory Bird Day is Saturday, May 11. A lot of fun local events are being planned by the Pilchuck Audubon Society. All events are free and families are welcome. Information: 425-252-0926 or www.pilchuckaudubon.org.

Field trip to Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and Mima Mounds: Meet at 8 a.m. at the rear of the Everett Mall by the Everett Transit Center and L.A. Fitness. Pack a lunch and bring binoculars. Carpooling will be encouraged.

Bird walks

(all are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.)

  • Edmonds marsh: Meet at the viewing platform next to the Blue Collar Dog House in the Harbor Square Business Complex off Dayton Street, Edmonds.
  • North Creek Park: Meet at the parking lot on 1011 183rd St. SE, Mill Creek. This park has flat boardwalks covering marsh habitat.
  • Langus Riverfront Park and Spencer Island: Meet at the beginning of the riverfront trail, which starts at the end of Smith Island Road, right before it goes under I – 5. Flat loop trail goes along river and then onto Spencer Island.

Birding class

10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Mukilteo Library

Learn about binoculars, field guides, bird feeders and bird identification. The last part of the class will be spent outdoors identifying birds. If you have binoculars, bring them.

Vaux’s swift watch

8 to 8:30 p.m., Frank Wagner Center, 639 W. Main St., Monroe

Watch the small, acrobatic swifts swirl above a chimney before they plunge down at dusk. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and binoculars. A docent will be available to talk about the swifts.
